Africa Unite Now Festival Benefit
As part of the Africa Unite Now Festival, Copus Music is presenting the premiere benefit of "Elements - The 1st World Rhythm Opera."
San Francisco, CA, August 25, 2007 --(PR.com)-- In celebration of the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and as part of a worldwide festival promoting Africa Unite Now, Copus Music is putting on a benefit. A portion of the proceeds will be channeled through the Conversations on Africa program that provides micro-loans to women-owned businesses throughout Africa. “We believe that in order for a community to develop economically, it is necessary to empower the women,” says Copus Music President Wendy Loomis.
Copus Music will present the premiere of ‘Elements – The First World Rhythm Opera' which will feature music, spoken word, singing, dance, martial arts, and video on the six elements from Western and Eastern derivation: water, earth, air, fire, metal, and wood. One of the highlights of the event will be rarely-seen footage of Haile Selassie and Ethiopia by National Geographic and Haile Selassie’s great-granddaughter Rahel. The evening will also include a raffle drawing, Ethiopian food and drink, and artist vendors.
Copus is a world music ensemble that creates and presents original material with a positive message - rap without violence, hip hop with a degree, jazz with lyrics, classical with a beat. Gil Scott Heron meets Chick Corea. Maya Angelou meets Stravinsky. Peter Tosh meets Debussy. "It is my belief that this music could be legendary if given the opportunity to thrive." (Michael Allison, MusicDish.com).
