Ride for Kids, PBTF Co-Founders Nominated for AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame
Ride for Kids, PBTF co-founders, the late Mike and Dianne Traynor, are nominees for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
Asheville, NC, June 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Ride for Kids are honored that their co-founders, the late Mike and Dianne Traynor, are nominees for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
The Traynors are on the nomination ballot along with 14 other individuals, including notable racers, designers and ambassadors for motorcycling.
"Very few people start their careers in this industry or sport expecting to end up in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, however the very best always rise to the top, as we see again this year," said Jeffrey V. Heininger, chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, which oversees the Hall of Fame.
“The Traynors changed the landscape of motorcycling, but more importantly, through the power of motorcyclists, they created hope for children afflicted with brain tumors,” said PBTF board member Larry Little, vice president and general manager of the Marketplace Events Motorcycle Group.
The first Ride for Kids event was held in Atlanta in 1984. The program is now a national series of motorcycle charity rides that benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Motorcyclists have helped the PBTF become the world’s largest non-governmental funder of childhood brain tumor research.
Mike Traynor passed away in 2009, and Dianne led the organization until her death in 2012.
“The legacy that Mike and Dianne created in the Ride for Kids fundraisers and the creation of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to find the cause of and cure for brain tumors in kids speaks loudly about their selfless drive, determination and ambition to beat this tragic disease,” Little said. “They literally brought out the best in people who just happen to ride motorcycles.”
Potential AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame members are considered in eight categories, each focusing on a specific area. The Traynors are nominated in the Ambassadors & Industry group.
Hall of Fame voting closes July 7, and members of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be announced shortly thereafter.
