The Daily Planet Café Announces July 2013 Science Café Events

Rocky Top Hospitality’s Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Hosts Summer Science Talks in Conjunction with North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Raleigh, NC, July 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dean Ogan, owner of Rocky Top Hospitality (http://www.rockytophospitality.com/), has announced that The Daily Planet Café will host three science café discussions in conjunction with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences during the month of July. The science café discussions will engage audiences on the topics of mathematics education, the origins of ice cream and innovative renewable energy options. Each event will be led by experts in their respective fields and will conclude with a question-and-answer session, in which attendees will be encouraged to ask specific questions to learn more.

The first event, entitled “Adventurous Math for the Playground Crowd” will be held Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. Dr. Maria Droujkova, curriculum developer and mathematics education researcher, and Yelena McManaman, blogger and education consultant, will lead the discussion on helping students learn advanced math. Directly impacting many of today’s leading industries and technologies, the talk will help parents and teachers discover more effective ways to teach mathematics in the earliest stages of a child’s life. The café discussion will be led by Dr. Keith Harris, an associate professor of food, bioprocessing and nutrition science at N.C. State. State’s department of nuclear engineering. McNelis will take a closer look at innovative renewable energy options and discuss the slow rate of progression behind many of these options. In addition, attendees will learn what to expect in terms of future climatic effects and how we may be able to mitigate these effects or learn to adapt to them.
