Tom Patterson of The Patterson Law Firm, LLC speaks at Asian American Business Expo.
Chicago, IL, July 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Tom Patterson shared his expertise on shareholder disputes and employee contracts at the Asian American Business Expo. The event, held June 29, gathered almost 1,000 business professionals and entrepreneurs eager to both share their knowledge and learn best practices from experts in a range of area specialties. Included on the Advanced Business Strategies panel with Patterson were Emily Dong, Senior Vice President at Water Tower Financial Partners, and Sherry Shi, CPA at MoreBack Tax & Accounting.
The panel discussion focused on increasing value and reducing risks. Patterson discussed the causes of shareholder disputes and LLC member disputes. He offered examples of restrictive covenants and other employee contracts that can protect employers from disloyal employees who compete or steal trade secrets. He offered prevention strategies as well as remedies for shareholder disagreements.
“The greed factor has ruined many small businesses,” Patterson said. “Communication before starting a business and a proper agreement can reduce the risks of a messy breakup.”
This is the second year that Patterson has participated in The Asian American Business Expo. The expo is a non-profit event run by volunteers. It is held annually at Illinois Institute of Technology and promotes entrepreneurship, leadership and professional growth.
