Native Healer at Red Bird Center Honored for Veterans Services

Shianne Eagleheart Honored for the Effective Healing Services for Veterans

Cleveland, OH, July 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Shianne Eagleheart (Haudenosaunee – Seneca), a licensed counselor and founder of the non-profit Red Bird Trauma Recovery Center, was recently honored as one of “Andy's Heroes” at the 8th Annual “Heroes for Andy” Gala event. Eagleheart was recognized for the effective healing methods she offers to veterans.

“The war doesn’t end for veterans experiencing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),” said Cassie Schumacher, who nominated Eagleheart. “With very few healing services available, Eagleheart has given hundreds of veterans the necessary help to move on to establish happy and successful lives.”

Eagleheart specializes in providing healing services to military personnel with PTSD and challenges related to their tours of duty. She incorporates Native American Healing Ceremonies and Traditions to resolve the pain associated with wartime duty. Veterans participate in an experience that invokes a rite of passage and allows them to find clarity and healing from the effects of war and military service, in the Healing Lodge at the Red Bird Center.

The Center works in conjunction with several veterans' organizations, like Pedal For Heroes USA, Valor Home, Freedom House, and Warrior’s Journey Home, to offer healing opportunities for veterans and their families. It also gives training for professional and community organizations to provide effective treatment for veterans with PTSD.

The 8th Annual “Heroes for Andy” Gala took place at the LaMalfa Centre in Mentor, Ohio, hosted by the Andy Nowacki Foundation. Schumacher, an advocate for veterans returning from war, co-founded Pedal For Heroes USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans, their families and honoring fallen soldiers. She completed the 2013 Race Across America, a 3000 mile race that she dedicated to bring awareness and support to the needs of veterans.

The Red Bird Center is one of the sponsors of the free showing of “The Invisible War,” a film about military sexual trauma, which will be shown at the Akron Library on Wednesday, August 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In response to the needs of veterans, Eagleheart and the Red Bird Center will offer two veterans’ retreats this fall: a Women Veterans’ Retreat, on September 21 and 22 and a Veterans and Their Families retreat on November 2 and 3. Pedal For Heroes USA will be accepting scholarships to these retreats. For more information, contact Schumacher by email at Cassie@PedalForHeroesUSA.org.
