Local Atlanta Organization, The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta” is Investing in Creativity

The Atlanta Arts Project "Stand for Art Atlanta," an independently funded project designed to increase opportunities for visual and performance artist, is looking to provide resources for artists.

Atlanta, GA, July 12, 2013 --(PR.com)-- If artists at times feel strapped and unappreciated, they’re not imagining things – at least not according to Investing in Creativity, a landmark 2003 study by the Urban Institute that examined life/work issues faced by artists in the wake of the decline in public funding for the arts. The study yielded a curious statistic: While 96 percent of Americans valued art, only 27 percent valued artists. It also identified artists’ pressing needs: housing, work space, affordable health insurance, funding, and validation. To tackle a few of those issues, The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta,” an independently funded project designed to increase opportunities for visual and performance artist, is looking to provide those resources.

The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta” is an independently funded project designed to increase opportunities for visual and performance artist in Atlanta and around the country. Atlanta is quickly becoming the center of arts and entertainment in the South. Despite this increase in interest in the arts the artist community is facing a challenge and is in need of access to resources to provide more opportunities for them to create, collaborate, display and sell work on a consistent basis. The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta” was developed to satisfy the need for better access, support and resources for Atlanta area artist and to create a network of artist that can collaborate, create and exhibit their work on a consistent basis.

The concept of the Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta” was developed and created by a working group of local area artist who identified a lack of resources available to artist said Founder and Executive Director Darren Baylor. Baylor stated that The Atlanta artist community, through focus groups and round table discussions, identified a need for better access to studio and exhibit space, as well as access to supplemental financial support for active working artist. With the state of the economy today, artist are finding it increasingly more difficult to continue to fund day -to -day expenses. Baylor also noted that it is equally as difficult to secure studio and exhibit space in order to promote collaboration and allow local artist the opportunity to continue to create, market and sell their work. The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta” is attempting to provide the necessary resources.

Funding generated by this effort will be used to support The Atlanta Arts Project “Stand for Art Atlanta.” This non profit organization of local area artist and patron supporters will offer opportunities for local area artist to have a forum to discuss how best to cultivate, develop, grow and support the arts in Atlanta. Specifically, they will create a network of artist and patrons /supporters that can provide consistent financial resources for artist to better able them to create, exhibit and sell their work. They will create a funding source to develop a forum for artist to collaborate and create work in a shared studio environment. They will also provide emergency financial assistance to artist in need and also create a network of artist and patrons /supporters that can collaborate while providing supplemental financial support for collaborative studio and exhibit space .

They are attempting to raise $100,000 dollars to spear head this effort and ask that you visit usaprojects.org to make tax deductible donations to help support The Atlanta Arts Project's “Stand for Art Atlanta” efforts to provide consistent access to resources for local area artist.
