Glenn Miller Orchestra Coming to Dover Downs Hotel & Casino Oct. 25

Dover, DE, July 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform in the Rollins Center® on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., now under the leadership of band director and lead vocalist, Nick Hilscher. Hilscher became the director of the touring band in 2012, replacing previous director Gary Tole to become the youngest director ever to lead the orchestra.

Hilscher, a native of Atlanta, GA., studied at Stamford University in Birmingham, Al., under the tutelage of Donald Sanders. Hilscher became the featured male vocalist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1998. He took a year off to complete his degree then returned to his singing post with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing an average of 300 shows per year in venues like the Hollywood Bowl and New York City’s Birdland. Hilscher’s touring has taken him to all fifty United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and Japan.

Laura Hart, the band’s regular, lead female vocalist, received her degree in musical theater performance from California State University, Fullerton. She has honed her style with a worldwide jazz act, performing regularly in Japan and Abu Dhabi. A favorite on cruise ships, Hart has performed her cabaret act and jazz quartet on Celebrity Cruises, Silversea and Princess Cruises. “To sing the songs and arrangements of such a great iconic band is an experience I will always treasure,” stated Hart. Hart covers the band’s vocal ensembles as part of the Moonlight Serenaders along with Hilscher and three other members of the band.

Most of the band’s tunes feature originals by Glenn Miller, like In The Mood, Tuxedo Junction and String of Pearls. Hilscher has also added several favorites from the Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey songbooks and the Sinatra collection, which feature pop songs from the ‘30s to the ‘60s.
