Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin to Meet with IEEW PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Students Wednesday, July 24
Governor to Meet with The Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women and the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Afghan and Rwandan Students in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City, OK, July 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW) (http://ieew.org), a nonprofit organization that encourages women’s leadership and entrepreneurship through education and mentoring initiatives, has announced that Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, will meet with Rwandan and Afghan women participating in the 2013 PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Mentorship Week on Wednesday, July 24. Fallin, the first female governor of Oklahoma, will have a private roundtable conversation with the program’s students about how they are achieving economic empowerment and creating jobs for their country. Following the discussion, Bryan Gonterman, president of AT&T Oklahoma, will deliver a brief presentation of support. During this time, the media will be invited to attend and interview the students from Rwanda and Afghanistan.
After having participated in an eight-week training course in their respective countries, the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® students are visiting the United States to participate in “Business Boot Camp,” a weeklong mentorship with an American woman business owner and the International Women’s Economic Summit. This is part of their required activities before they graduate from PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® in the Dallas area Tuesday, July 30, following months of study and hands-on experience. When the students return to Afghanistan and Rwanda, they are equipped with the tools to implement their new business skills in their own businesses and share their knowledge with other women.
PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® is a business training and mentorship program for women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan and Rwanda. Founded by IEEW CEO Dr. Terry Neese, the program implements three major components – in-country education, leadership development and train the trainer – which combined create a continuing program to educate women, promote their business and leadership skills, and build a strong public policy agenda in the women’s business community to help build stable democracies.

Fallin’s participation during our Mentorship Week, and we are excited to offer the students of this year’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program the opportunity to speak with her about the importance of building small businesses and the importance of women’s economic empowerment,” said Neese. “Our students will have much to gain from the insights provided by this strong female leader.”
“I am pleased to participate in Mentorship Week as part of IEEW’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS program,” said Gov. Fallin. “I look forward to having an excellent discussion and learning from these women about their own business struggles and accomplishments. It is my hope that through our talks, they will learn constructive measures they can implement in their home countries for effective change.”
