John Rex Endowment Awards Two Grants to Assist with Nonprofit Capacity Building

Raleigh, NC, July 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The John Rex Endowment announces two grants to support nonprofit capacity building. Passage Home will be awarded an $11,000 grant, and Wake Education Partnership will receive an $11,000 grant. Both grants will support organizational assessments of current capacities.

The John Rex Endowment has invested nearly $1.25 million since October 2009 to support capacity building for 29 local nonprofits. Nonprofit capacity building builds the strength and sustainability of nonprofits, and the John Rex Endowment is committed to funding this work for organizations that support an environment where children and families in greater Wake County live healthy lives.

“Our capacity building support is designed to help a nonprofit enhance its internal infrastructure so that it can effectively and efficiently address the needs of our county’s children,” said Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the John Rex Endowment. “Effective capacity building begins with a comprehensive organizational assessment.”

Organizational assessments that are funded by grants from the John Rex Endowment are conducted by professional consultants and involve board leadership and staff. Six key areas of an organization’s infrastructure are assessed, including mission, vision and strategy; governance and leadership; resource development; strategic relationships; internal operations and management; and program delivery and impact.
