Rural Co-Op Gets a Handle on Big Data, Saving Big Dollars
Verdeeco apps equip Florida utility with intuitive, cost-effective system with real-time results.
Atlanta, GA, July 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Verdeeco, an innovative smart grid analytics firm for the utility industry, continues to strengthen the data management system at Talquin Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TECI) through the implementation of multiple big data applications. Following an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) deployment, the Florida electric utility recognized a data load increase of 73,000 percent, prompting the need for improved data analytics and customer engagement.
TECI, which serves 52,500 electric and 20,000 water accounts across a 2,600 square-mile territory, currently employs Verdeeco’s Meter Insight, Alarm Console, Device Access, and the Customer Billing Application. In the future, the utility will expand its use of Verdeeco’s products to include Voltage Monitoring, Transformer Loading, Unbilled Revenue and the Customer Portal applications.
The Alarm Console application has been particularly useful for TECI, providing real-time notifications of outages and irregularities. This capability aids the utility in its decision process on where to make system improvements or roll trucks.
TECI’s Director of Engineering Services, Jeremy Nelms, said, “We quickly realized a need for better data analytics and desired a modular system that would not only gather and report data, but would also provide us with actionable intelligence to further improve customer service.” Nelms continued, “The Verdeeco developers devoted a lot of time to the user-interface and really succeeded in making the apps easy to use and aesthetically-pleasing.”
Verdeeco CEO Brian Crow commented, “We’re thrilled at the success Talquin has had with our applications. Not only have our applications given them a quick time to value, but Talquin has been extremely helpful in providing feedback and suggestions to us as well. We really value that interaction as we are always looking to improve our products for the industry.”
