The Miss Black Beauty pageant was developed to honor Black beauty, to raise awareness for the minority cultural heritage, and community significance. Additionally, it aims to promote intelligence, strength, confidence and inner beauty. Categories consist of leadership, evening gown, talent, national costume, swimsuit, community service award, and question & answer. These segments allow the contestants, aged between 18 and 28, to have the opportunity to show off their beauty, talents and accomplishments, as well as express their thoughts on various issues. Of the 24 remarkable contestants, one outstanding girl will be crowned the winner. As Miss Black Beauty, she will receive a cash prize and a paid holiday. Furthermore, she will have the opportunity to volunteer with SCAGO (Sickle Cell Anemia) and mentor high school students.
The event will be held at the Isabel Bader theatre on August 24, 2013 and will consist of numerous activities, such as African/Caribbean dancing and comedy acts.
