Sustainable Atlanta Launches New Look Up ATL Social Good Community for Metro Region
LookUp Atlanta is the new social good community developed by Sustainable Atlanta. It’s where metro Atlantans can now come together to strengthen communities, inspire action and enrich lives. By raising awareness about local sustainability efforts, connecting people, and sharing resources, Look Up inspires individuals and organizations to act for good — helping build a healthy and prosperous future for everyone in the metro area.
Atlanta, GA, July 28, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Sustainable Atlanta Launches New Look Up Atlanta
Online community lifts up the positive and connects people and resources across metro Atlanta.
Look Up Atlanta is the new social good community developed by Sustainable Atlanta. It’s where metro Atlantans can now come together to strengthen communities, inspire action and enrich lives. By raising awareness about local sustainability efforts, connecting people, and sharing resources, Look Up inspires individuals and organizations to act for good — helping build a healthy and prosperous future for everyone in the metro area.
Every movement needs a gathering space. Until now, for those working in the trenches every day to make Atlanta a better place, there was no gathering space to share, celebrate and inspire the good work happening every day to create a more sustainable community.
“The Look Up Atlanta community provides a centralized place to share stories, resources and opportunities about sustainability in a way that each of us can relate to,” according to Sustainable Atlanta Executive Director Suzanne Burnes. “We have so much good happening across the region but so much of it happens in silos and we miss opportunities every day to collaborate for greater impact. We needed to find a way to forge connections across issues and geography, to expand our respective audiences and leverage resources throughout metropolitan Atlanta.”
Everyone from businesses, governments, non-profits, and academia to individuals is encouraged to join the community at no cost. The link is www.lookupatl.org and it only takes a minute or two to create an individual user account and organizational profile. Look Up Atlanta won’t replace an organization’s web site or social media following on other platforms – it will help funnel a more diverse audience to it as this community grows.
The SA staff and its partners at SolDesign Company have been hard at work over the last nine months developing the Look Up Atlanta platform. Existing community members and partners from around the region have shown incredible support for the community and helped to seed it with rich content. At a time when peers have become the most valued sources of information in our culture, Look Up Atlanta was designed to drive content and conversations through submissions provided by users. Community content will be curated by
Sustainable Atlanta to ensure user guidelines are adhered to.
Later this year, Look Up Atlanta will begin to provide a springboard for off-line action through a series of future events that will physically connect engaged members of the Look Up Atlanta community with sustainability resources and assets throughout metro Atlanta. An annual celebration highlighting leaders and the good they do around the region is also in the planning.
So what’s next? During the next 18 months, Sustainable Atlanta staff will conduct a grassroots campaign supported by social and traditional media to drive awareness and site use throughout the region. We’ll also add additional functionality to enhance the user experience on the community.
Development of Look Up Atlanta was largely funded by grants received from the Kendeda Fund and the UPS Foundation with additional support from Google, Radial Café, Tree Sound Studios, and Edelman.
