Evan Guthrie Law Firm Serves as Judge for National Admiralty Moot Court Competition in Charleston SC

Charleston, SC, July 30, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina judged the 2013 Judge R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition on Friday March 22, 2013 in Charleston, SC. The event was co sponsored by the University of Texas School Of Law and the Charleston School Of Law. Charleston Law was the local host school for the competition. The event featured law students from law schools throughout the United States that traveled to South Carolina to take part in the competition. The Judge R. Brown Admiralty event has a different location each year and it was several years since it was last hosted in the Charleston area. Students from different law school manned two person teams and participated in a random groupings during preliminary rounds and those teams with the highest scores moved on to quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds. Students were given a problem fact situation from a case involving admiralty law that they had to argue. Students were randomly assigned a side of the case and had to be prepared to argue both sides just in case. Attorney Evan Guthrie was joined in judging the event by lawyers that travelled to judge the event from all across the nation. Mr. Guthrie was joined in his panel by experienced admiralty lawyers from as far away as Boston, MA and New York, NY. Attorney Guthrie was able to learn more about admiralty law in preparation to judge the students in the completion. Mr. Guthrie was impressed by the level of skill of the law student competitors and was able to give them positive feedback after scoring each round. Attorney Guthrie was happy to be able to give back to those studying the law and taking part in the arguments. Mr. Guthrie was glad to be able to participate in such a prestigious event and looks forward to a time in the future that it may return to Charleston to host.
