Career Step to Host Panel Discussion on State of Medical Transcription Industry at AHDI ACE Conference

Career Step will be sponsoring a panel discussion on the state of the medical transcription industry at AHDI’s ACE conference on Friday, August 2 from 4:20-5:20 p.m. in the Great Hall East, Main Ballroom Level of the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa.

Provo, UT, July 31, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online institution offering career-focused education and corporate training, will be sponsoring a panel discussion on the state of the medical transcription industry at the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity’s (AHDI) Annual Convention and Expo (ACE) being held in Lake Buena Vista, FL, July 31 through August 3. The panel will feature representatives from both AHDI and Career Step in addition to several large industry employers, including Nuance Healthcare Solutions, M*Modal, and Amphion Medical Solutions, and will be held on Friday, August 2 from 4:20-5:20 p.m. in the Great Hall East, Main Ballroom Level of the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa.

“We are seeing a discrepancy between what prospective medical transcription students are hearing about the industry and what our employer partners are telling us about their hiring needs,” said Ryan Ewer, Career Step Vice President of Enrollments and Marketing. “Our employer partners are consistently asking for more graduates to fill their hiring needs, so we have organized this panel discussion to offer an honest, candid look at what is really going on from some of the biggest players in the industry.”

Career Step has gathered panel participants from all of these different organizations to facilitate a discussion that can be referenced by those considering careers in medical transcription as well as professionals currently working in the field. The panel will provide insight into questions such as the biggest challenges currently facing the industry, the future demand for medical transcriptionists, and the skills needed for these professionals to be successful within the reality of today’s industry. Panel representatives will include Susan Dooley, MHA, CMT, AHDI-F, At-large Director of AHDI’s National Leadership Board; Shaw Reitkerk, Vice President of North American Operations at M*Modal; Heather Steinfeld, Senior Director of US Transcription Operations at Nuance Healthcare Solutions; Jane Bates, RHIA, Vice President of Human Resources at Amphion Medical Solutions; and Ryan Ewer, Vice President of Enrollments and Marketing at Career Step.

“The changes in healthcare are bringing changes to the medical transcription industry, but the field is evolving rather than becoming obsolete,” said Linda Brady, CAE, AHDI CEO. “We are excited to be working with Career Step on this panel discussion because of the insight it will provide into the changes employers and professionals are seeing from credible sources who have a real understanding of what is taking place.”

As the largest medical transcription educational institution, Career Step is particularly suited to lead this discussion. The school has trained thousands of quality medical transcriptionists over the past 20 years and was originally founded by an experienced medical transcriptionist who recognized the need for a quality training program in her field. Career Step has placed medical transcription graduates with hundreds of companies, and its training is preferred by many employers.

The panel discussion on the state of the medical transcription industry is open to AHDI ACE conference attendees and will also be videotaped and made available on the Career Step website following the event. Audience questions will be accepted after the discussion.
