Kellie Dawn Pickler showed up on the Country music scene in 2006 as a contestant on Season Five of American Idol. Since then, Pickler has enjoyed a steady rise to stardom with the release of each successive album, Small Town Girl (2006), Kellie Pickler (2008), which sold 79,000 copies in the first week, earning her the highest-selling first-week sales for a new artist, and 100 Proof (Fall, 2012). Pickler has toured with Rascal Flatts (2007, 2010), Brad Paisley (2007-2008), Sugarland (2008) and Taylor Swift (2009-2010).
The 27-year-old, North Carolina native has been nominated for a slew of awards including CMT Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, American Country Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards and Country Music Association Awards, beaten only by the likes of top Country powerhouses Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum.
In 2009, she went home with an armful of trophies from CMT’s Music Awards for her single “I Wonder,” winning Breakthrough Video of The Year, Tearjerker Video of The Year, and Performance of The Year delivered at the 2007 CMA Awards, for which she received a standing ovation. Most recently, Pickler appeared on Dancing With The Stars with show alum Derrick Hough, and the two went on to win the prized mirror-ball trophy.
Pickler has won the prestigious American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Songwriter award (most performed country songs of the year) for “Red High Heels” in 2007, for “I Wonder” in 2008, and again in 2011 for “Best Days of Your Life.” “I write what my soul tells me to write,” said Pickler. “I realized the key to writing is just being true and writing what is real. It’s why country music has such an impact. It’s music people relate to because it’s about telling true stories.”
Pickler is greatly involved with philanthropic endeavors including her four USO Tours to Iraq, Kuwait, Germany, Afghanistan, Kosovo and England. “The USO Tours have been a highlight of my career and life. It’s been the most impactful, life-changing thing I’ve been able to do.” She has also lent her fame in support of orphaned and abandoned children, American Red Cross, PETA, AARP, ABC’s Extreme Makeover, where she helped during reconstruction of a family home in Ohio, followed by a free concert at the home, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Hurricane Katrina-damaged NFL Youth Education Towns Boys & Girls Club. “When you’re able to give back to your communities and organizations like St. Jude, it’s a great thing.”
