Maine-Based Organization Redefines The Corporate Team Building Retreat
Maine-based Outward Bound Professional is redefining leadership and team building.
Camden, ME, August 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Fact: We’ve all been subjected to a subpar leadership or team building retreat at one point or another during our careers. Maine-based Outward Bound Professional is redefining the corporate retreat by offering high-intensity, creative options for organizations that want more from their investment.
This summer it was time for Vermont-based Casella Waste Systems Inc. to unite their New England leadership and, once again, they chose Outward Bound Professional for a fun-filled day of creative and slightly unusual team building activities. Locals watched in awe as Casella employees flew across a zip line from the third floor of a building in downtown Camden, across the Megunticook River, to the top of a utilities building, where they rappelled downward.
"Casella has a very hands-on management style,” says Dan Emerson, General Manager for Casella Waste Management Systems Inc. “We’re all engaged. Outward Bound Professional focuses on learning by doing with their team building which is a good fit for us. They worked really closely with me to determine the appropriate scope, goals, and desired results. And they delivered; we came away with a rich and memorable experience.”
“Many corporate workshops don’t have lasting takeaways because they aren’t getting teams out of their comfort zone and, therefore, learnings aren’t as powerful,” explains Eric Denny, Executive Director of Outward Bound Professional. “We work with organizations from New York to New England using a unique and deliberate learning approach which presents teams with a series of challenges, each one harder than the next. At the end of the experience, teams work on translating positive behaviors used in Outward Bound exercises to the work world. We offer this type of learning in outdoor environments, at conference centers, and on-site at our client's workplace.”
Outward Bound is world-wide network of independent schools, founded in 1941 by educator Kurt Hahn, whose mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery. Outward Bound Professional is affiliated with the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, also based in Camden, which offers wilderness and sailing courses for youth, adults, and groups.
