Street-Level Youth Media Presents Headliners Ball Benefit at Double Door Nightclub Chicago

On September 26th, Street-Level Youth Media of Chicago will be putting on a benefit at the local Double Door. In addition to an engaging program showcasing young talents, complete with auction and raffle items, the second half of this 7 hour extravaganza will consist of an electronic arts performance composed of featured headliners Helen Money, DJ Spooky, and Jeremy Ellis.

Chicago, IL, August 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Street-Level is bringing an electronic arts experience of epic proportions to Wicker Park/ Bucktown on September 26th at community landmark venue the Double Door. In addition to an engaging program showcasing young talents and covetable auction and raffle items, the event will feature a program of featured headliners in the second half of this 7 hour extravaganza: Helen Money, DJ Spooky, and Jeremy Ellis.

Incorporated in 1995 as a 501(c)(3), Street-Level Youth Media educates Chicago's urban youth in the media arts and emerging technologies for self-expression, communication, and social change. Executive Director Manwah Lee adds, “We do this so young people have the confidence and skills to imagine better futures for themselves, and create the world they want to live in.” Street Level reaches nearly 1,000 youth through work in citywide schools and their multimedia center. “We do a lot with very little,” says Lee. “We can do more, and do what we do now better with your support.”

The Boston Phoenix concisely described Alison Chesley aka Helen Money as “a Chicago classical-cellist-turned-Avant-metal virtuoso”. Her live shows consistently deliver an atmosphere that is simultaneously delicate, profound, and dense with power. Chesley has played on over 150 albums with artists such as Disturbed, Bob Mould, Mono, Anthrax, Broken Social Scene, Russian Circles, and Archer Prewitt among others, and in addition to performing at the Headliners Ball to benefit Street-Level, she will be returning on November 3rd to give a workshop at Street Level’s Ashland Avenue multimedia center.

Paul Miller, (aka DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid) is a composer, multimedia artist and writer. His written work has appeared in The Village Voice, The Source, and Artforum amongst other publications. Miller's work as a media artist has appeared in the Whitney Biennial; The Venice Biennial for Architecture (2000); the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany; Kunsthalle, Vienna; The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and many other museums and galleries. His video installation "New York Is Now" was exhibited in the Africa Pavilion of the 52 Venice Biennial 2007, and the Miami/Art Basel fair of 2007. Miller's award-winning book "Rhythm Science" was published by MIT Press 2004, and was followed by "Sound Unbound," an anthology of writings on electronic music and digital media, published in 2008. Miller’s latest book is The Book of Ice (Mark Batty Publisher). Over the course of his career, Miller has collaborated with vast array of recording artists, ranging from Metallica to Chuck D; from Steve Reich to Yoko Ono. Miller’s large scale, multimedia performance pieces include “Rebirth of a Nation” (now on DVD), and “Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica,” which was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the Next Wave Festival 2009.

Renowned for his maddening skills on stage, Jeremy Ellis is a savant performer that combines a lifetime of classical training with the latest technology today's musical landscape has to offer. A forerunner of a new era in electronic music, he takes digital expressiveness full circle with his uncanny ability to compose mind-blowing beats and intricate melodies on the spot, controlling entire virtual orchestras just with the power of his ultrasonic fingertips.
