Local Elks Lodge to Continue Charitable Work

Austin, TX, August 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Austin’s local Elks Lodge #201 will continue its community outreach this Saturday, August 10th. The members of the local Lodge will proceed with the scheduled trip for special needs children and adults of the Austin area to attend Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. The chartered bus will leave the Lodge parking lot, 700 Dawson Rd, Saturday August 10, 2013 at 9 am.

In March of 2013 the local Lodge #201 received a $10,000 Impact Grant from the Elks National Foundation for six day trips to Morgan's Wonderland, an amusement park designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with mental, cognitive or physical disabilities. This Impact Grant is designed to instill hope and confidence in special needs individuals. Participants on these trips to Morgan's Wonderland build communication and social skills in a fun and safe environment. Their caregivers enjoy a day relaxing with their family members, create lasting memories and build relationships with others in the community.

Working with the Marbridge Foundation and the Autism Society of Greater Austin, the local lodge has already completed 3 of the day trips to the park, with the fourth trip planned for this Saturday. Each trip provides travel to the park for the day and a picnic lunch for about 20 special needs children and adults, each accompanied by a family member.

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) helps local Elks strengthen their communities. The Foundation invests in communities where Elks live and work. They also help state Elks associations fulfill charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the quality of life in local Elks communities. The ENF also honors the Elks pledge to never forget our veterans.

In July, Austin’s Lodge #201 was closed by an Executive Order from the Grand Lodge. At that time, local lodge members decided to rise above that disciplinary action and continue to fulfill their charitable objectives. It's important to Elk Members in Austin and the ENF that their commitment to the community be fulfilled. To honor that commitment, the scheduled trip will proceed as planned.

Austin Lodge #201 members will accompany the group to Morgan’s Wonderland, serve lunch and facilitate fun throughout the day. The activity is just one of many service projects the local Lodge undertakes each year to promote the four principles of Elkdom: fidelity; justice; brotherly love and charity.
