Company Launches New Online Cure for After-School Activity Stress -- the “Try 5 Passport”
New York, NY, August 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Do you remember your mom insisting you take after-school classes in piano, religion or ballroom dance? Most kids have "forced after-school activity" moments and it's stressing them out, according to recent studies. Plus, parents end up spending a small fortune on activities that their kids might ultimately dread and despise.
Emmie Chang, CEO of Texas-based start-up Camperoo, has found the cure for what she has dubbed "after-school activity stress" or ASAS. The company's new Try 5 Passport enables kids to sample five different after-school programs in their area for only $49.99 over a period of 30 days.
"Kids and parents don't need to commit right away to 6 weeks of karate or ballet or robotics. Children can try a variety of activities at a relaxed pace and then find their own passion, which ultimately leads to a better experience," Chang says.
While after-school activities are, in fact, beneficial to the health and growth of children, a downside exists from taking on too much. Studies show that participating in too many activities can add to stress (this goes for both adults and kids). What parents may not know is that their stress can also rub off on their kids. A study by the American Psychological Association, showed that parents underestimate how much their own stress affects their children, which can later cause behavioral problems if kids don't learn how to manage it, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"Well-meaning, caring and intelligent parents often make the mistake of providing their children with too much. They enroll them in a vast array of enriching after-school activities and pursuits, any one or two or even three of which would be beneficial, when bundled together become not a benefit but stressful and onerous," says Dr. Ned Hallowell, a child and adult psychiatrist and bestselling author. "The key is to find one or two activities the child can really get into, grapple with, and grow, both in confidence and skill, while not feeling oppressed by a long list of 'fun' activities that morph into a glob of obligations that are anything but fun."
