The Kebab Shop Announces 2nd Annual Doner Day at Its Six San Diego Locations on August 18th
This year’s celebration will include Doner Kebab giveaways, various prizes, local radio station DJs on-site and a fundraiser component for First Book and The San Diego Food Bank
San Diego, CA, August 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Kebab Shop, the first European-style kebab shop in San Diego and San Diego Magazine's 2012 "Cheap Eats" Editor's winner, announced its 2nd Annual Doner Day. On Saturday, August 18th, San Diegans are invited to participate in Doner Day taking place at all six Kebab Shop locations from 11:00 am to 4:00 p.m.
Throughout the duration of the event, patrons will have the opportunity to participate in The Kebab Shop’s Doner Day slogan: “Get a Doner, Be a Doner.” For every Doner purchased that day, one dollar will be donated to First Book, a literacy charity, in partnership CBS Radio’s “Food for Thought” campaign with The San Diego Food Bank.
“We had such a great turnout at last year’s event, with just four Kebab Shop locations in San Diego,” said A.J Akbar, co-owner of The Kebab Shop. “After opening Mission Valley and Rancho Bernardo this year, and adding a charity beneficiary, we are excited for an even bigger turnout, more giveaways and fun for our customers.”
Once doors open at 11 a.m., the first 20 individuals at each of The Kebab Shop locations will receive a free Doner Kebab of their choice. In addition, a raffle will take place at each location and one winner, per location, will be selected to receive a free Doner Kebabs until the end of the year (one per week). Anyone interested in participating in the raffle must enter on August 18th by filling out a raffle slip, with any purchase. Winners will be announced via email.
Music will be provided by DJ personalities from KyXy 96.5, Energy 103.7 and KPRi 102.1 at the Encinitas, Mission Valley and Rancho Bernardo Kebab Shop locations. These three locations will have a prize wheel, giving patrons a chance to win different menu items or discounts at The Kebab Shop.
"We’re inviting San Diego to celebrate a day just for a food that they have grown to love (and crave); one that has been around since the 18th century, yet only gained popularity here in recent years,” said Akbar. “It's also a great way for us to say ‘thanks’ to our customers, who have helped us grow to six locations within San Diego.”
Doner kebabs, a Turkish dish made traditionally of roasted meat cooked on a vertical spit, gained popularity in Germany in the 1980s and have since grown in popularity the world over.
The Kebab Shop's doner kebabs are offered in spiced lamb, marinated chicken or falafel, with a mix of fresh vegetables, a creamy garlic yogurt sauce and homemade spicy sauce. Patrons often pair the doner kebabs with Turkish, Lebanese and German beers, also offered at most of The Kebab Shop locations.
