Sandy Martial Arts Facility Celebrates 17 Years of Leadership Development, Community Service, and Martial Arts Training
Personal Mastery Martial Arts in Sandy, UT celebrates their 17 year anniversary of martial arts and life skill instruction this month.
Sandy, UT, August 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- This month, Personal Mastery Martial Arts in Sandy, UT is celebrating their 17 year anniversary. For 17 years this martial arts facility has been training students and their families not only in Tae Kwon Do, but also in leadership development, personal and family safety, self defense, health and nutrition habits, goal setting, self discipline, and community service. Over the years, the students of Personal Mastery Martial Arts have learned how to create a better, happier version of themselves – and they have fun at the same time.
17 years ago, Senior Master Instructor Brett Lechtenberg created Personal Mastery Martial Arts (then called Pil Sung Martial Arts) with the goal of making a difference in his community. Since then he has gone on to help hundreds of people develop leadership skills, self defense skills, and has helped countless children learn the skills they need to succeed in school and in life. In addition to running Personal Mastery Martial Arts, Brett also created a non-profit organization for the prevention of child abuse and promotion of children’s safety called the “Break the Chain Foundation.” Through this organization, Brett has helped raise funds for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and for children’s safety programs in his community.
All of the students at Personal Mastery Martial Arts also take a proactive role in community service. The martial arts studio participates in several community projects each year, including such events as the Break-a-thon for the prevention of child abuse, an annual toy drive for families in the community at Christmas, providing free school programs at local schools and daycares, and participation in events like Sandy Pride Day and the Race for the Cure.
In addition to their service in the community, Personal Mastery Martial Arts is also known for its reputation as a family oriented training center. Many of the students of this studio train with their families, including the owner Brett Lechtenberg. Some of the families who train here even span three generations with parents, children, and grandparents all learning and working together.
One mother who trains with her family, Kim McGowan-Jackson, said, “Our experience has been nothing but fantastic. We take Tae Kwon Do and I also take the Kickboxing classes next door. It’s a fun and family oriented experience, which is what I like most about it. We train together, we learn to protect ourselves together, we get fit together, and it’s focused on working as a family unit and learning and growing together.”
Personal Mastery Martial Arts focuses on more than just martial arts skills development – they also teach leadership skills, goal setting skills, self confidence, and much more. One grandparent, Christine Cox, made the following statement about how she has seen the program help her granddaughter, “My granddaughter just wanted to ‘try’ it for a few months last year to see if it was something she liked. At the end of six months, she was so excited to continue on and earn her Black Belt and beyond. My favorite part is watching her grow and develop plus learn new things not only about martial arts, but life skills. After one super Saturday learning how to care for their bodies, she insisted on having only healthy food in her lunch and started substituting soda with water! That's great for a 12-year old! I love the fact that she works weekly on chores, respect, school assignments, and volunteering to help as part of her requirements for belt promotion. It is definitely more than just martial arts – it is all about improving and developing a well-rounded life style.”
Many of the students at Personal Mastery Martial Arts continue to train long after they earn their first degree Black Belt. They go on to become mentors to other students, and instructors in both Kickboxing and Martial Arts classes. One long-term student and instructor, Master Bree Wise said, “I have been training at Personal Mastery Martial Arts for 12 ½ years now and I can say that it is the best experience that I have ever had! All the staff is very professional and very knowledgeable. The great thing about Personal Mastery Martial Arts is that the training is always evolving. You learn not only basic to advanced Tae Kwon Do, but you also learn Kickboxing, Kenpo, and Tactical self defense training, just to name a few. Also the life lessons I have learned are invaluable. My confidence has grown so much over the years I have been training that I can't even tell you. This is literally my second family.”
