Wish Upon a Wedding to Provide Wedding for Young Portland Mother Battling Stage IV Breast Cancer in Northern California This September
Wish Upon A Wedding will be granting a wedding for a Portland couple this September. Heather & Chris will be wed in Carmel Valley, CA thanks to the Northern California Chapter. Heather, who has been diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, will receive the wedding of her dreams free-of-charge by Wish Upon A Wedding.
Carmel Valley, CA, August 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Heather, a young mother who is battling stage IV breast cancer will marry her true love, Chris, in an intimate ceremony at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley this September. The entire wedding will be provided to the couple free-of-charge by the local Northern California chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding, the world’s first non-profit organization dedicated to providing weddings and vow renewals for individuals facing a life-threatening illness and other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation.
When Heather, who currently resides in Portland, contacted the Northern California Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding this April she told us, “I don't know what lies ahead in my journey with cancer, but I do know that I want to celebrate my love for this man and his unwavering love for me, without drama, without stress....just simply in joy.” After receiving the couple’s application, Wish Upon a Wedding's Northern California chapter started working tirelessly to make the couple’s wish a reality, which will come true this September at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley, completely donated by Wish Upon A Wedding.
About the Couple: In 2007, Heather and her 3-year-old daughter moved to Las Vegas from New England to be closer to her brother and during her mother’s final years with a terminal diagnosis of breast cancer. To make things more complicated, a month before moving to Vegas, her brother was deported to serve in Iraq. Upon arriving in Vegas, Heather and her daughter felt far away from the support of friends and family, but decided to make it work. Heather met Chris at the workplace that year and fell in love. Heather gushes, “Every time he came near me I turned beet red.” From the moment they met, Heather knew that Chris was the real reason she had gone to Vegas.
Less than a year of dating, the couple decided to move to Portland after Chris was offered a job. They decided to move there together as a family, but Chris would move first to find a place for the family in Portland. Still in Nevada and preparing for a big move, Heather discovered a lump about 4 months later that turned into a devastating diagnosis: stage IV breast cancer. Doctors discovered the cancer had metastasized to her bones and recommended immediate treatment, so she moved to Portland to begin treatment, with her daughter to follow in a month. Like her mother, she would now be battling the same disease.
Heather says, “When you have been diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, your idea of ‘future’ changes.” Every moment she has with her family is a gift from the Universe. Since she has no idea what tomorrow will bring, her present has become her future.
After celebrating her 3rd year in remission this past February, Heather learned that the cancer had metastasized to her lungs. Despite the difficult times, they have remained strong and will now have the chance to celebrate Heather’s love for Chris and his unwavering love for her and her daughter.
