Clemson University Funds New Charter School’s STEM Program

Pee Dee Math, Science and Technology Academy Wins Award for their L.E.E.P project.

Bishopville, SC, August 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Clemson University Center for Workforce Development (CUCWD) awarded Pee Dee Math, Science and Technology Academy (PDMSTA) of Bishopville, South Carolina for its Learning Effectively through Electronic Programs (L.E.E.P.) project on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Duke Energy Foundation funded CUCWD to identify Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) projects like PDMSTA’S L.E.E.P. project within South Carolina. This Duke Energy/CUCWD partnership aims to support the overall statewide initiative for STEM to help create awareness and people resources within advanced manufacturing. PDMSTA is leading the way for the Pee Dee area by focusing on STEM for elementary students while yet providing and meeting learning standards for English Language Arts and other expectations set forth by South Carolina and national Common Core State Standards.

L.E.E.P. is just one of the ways PDMSTA is offering an alternative approach to learning. PDMSTA’s first school day was August 14th, 2013. “We are really excited about our first school year,” says E. Keith Bailey, Director. “It is great to hear parents talk about how their children are excited to come to school.” Bailey also states, “I believe if we make learning fun while providing a safe environment, students will thrive.”

PDMSTA is authorized by the South Carolina Public Charter School District and the South Carolina Department of Education. It is a Free public charter school in Bishopville, South Carolina. PDMSTA is serves students Kindergarten through 6th grade. During its first year, PDMSTA is open to students grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade and will add an additional grade each year.
