FoxGuard Solutions Hacks Model Power Plant for Toshiba Users Group Demo
Christiansburg, VA, August 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Monta Elkins, Security Architect for FoxGuard Solutions, used a simplified model of a power generator to demonstrate common SCADA system hacking techniques at Toshiba International Corporation’s Users Group in New Orleans, LA this June. He is preparing an expanded presentation for EnergySec's 9th Annual Security Summit to be held September 17-19, 2013 in Denver, CO.
Built from scratch, the model power plant includes an HMI, PLC, Ethernet connections, and a tiny generator. Mr. Elkins involves audience members to operate the plant while he demonstrates network and internet reconnaissance, password guessing attacks, man-in-the-middle attacks, and buffer overflow attacks in the model industrial control system environment. He then discusses methods for identifying and mitigating these types of attacks.
“FoxGuard’s Hacking Tools demonstration at our Users Group meeting was enlightening and entertaining, and it provided a striking example of the importance of cyber security at our customers’ facilities,” said
Ernest Williams, Product Line Manager for Toshiba’s Power Generation Services group.
