12th Anniversary of 9/11/01 - Patriots Unite Across the Globe “To Thank and Honor Those who Serve Our Country”
For the 11th year in a row, the Patriots’ Run (PatriotsRun.org) will have runners participating from both the US and abroad. Troops in Afghanistan will again swap their boots for running shoes showing a United Front against Terrorism while local runners will participate in a 9 hour and 11 minute run at the Great Mall of the Great Plains starting at noon on 9/11.
Olathe, KS, August 28, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Many Americans refer to Patriot Day as 9/11 or September 11.
For the11th year in a row, the Patriots’ Run (PatriotsRun.org) will have runners participating from both the US and abroad. Troops in Afghanistan will again swap their boots for running shoes showing a United Front against Terrorism while local runners will participate in a 9 hour and 11 minute run at the Great Mall of the Great Plains starting at noon on 9/11.
What began as a commemorative community run has grown into a national event drawing runners from across America and other nations. In 2012, 369 runners from across America and even Brazil came to Olathe to participate in the Patriots' Run.
In Afghanistan, the 2012 Patriots’ Run was yet another unmitigated success in both Bagram AFB and Camp Eggers where over 1000 proud members of our military participated oftentimes after coming in from serving on duty all day. These brave men and women donned their running shoes and ran – in the sand, on black-top, and even on treadmills - to honor the fallen. However, they do not run on 9/11 – as it is too great a risk for insurgents to mount an attack. In many of the past events the enemy has shelled the course.
In Olathe, KS, the course is a one-mile loop at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, located at 20700 West 151st Street. This is just West of Highway I-35 and 151st St. On this flat course with aid every mile it is an event for runners of all ages and skill levels.

Once again this year Walmart is hosting "Hotdogs for Hero’s" at various locations throughout the KC Metro Area. Garmin, Planet Sub, Papa John’s, Aldi and Dunkin Doughnuts will be on site assisting with the food and support for the run as well. It takes a lot of people to make an event of this magnitude successful! If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tim Miller at tmiller1983@kc.rr.com or call 913-339-6767.
USA Schedule for the Event
