Modern Salon, To The Woods, Sets Up Shop in Commercial Space in Energy Efficient Condominium Neighborhood in Chapel Hill

To The Woods owners Jessica Reiner, Jaime Phillips and Julie Smith chose Greenbridge Condos as the location for their 1,300-square-foot salon because of its central location, walkability in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and the building’s eco-friendly design. Reiner, a native of Orlando, started her career as a hairstylist by helping out in her mother’s salon and giving haircuts to friends after hours. After completing her licensure in cosmetology, she was able to fine-tune her skills through advanced training in Deva Curl, Arrojo and American Wave Curl systems.
Hailing from Pinehurst, N.C., Phillips first found her passion for hairstyling through the fashion industry. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the renowned Aveda Institute. Phillips’ advanced training at Sally Herschberger Downtown, the East Villages Tease Salon and the eponymous Arrojo Studio has given her an edge in haircutting and color. Her appetite for knowledge eventually led her to become a Bumble and Bumble educator.
Smith grew up in Georgia and began assisting in a salon at the age of 14. While working in a salon and attending college in Atlanta, she decided to enroll in a private hair academy in St. Petersburg, Fla. After graduation, Smith was offered an opportunity to train under top hair names Sam Villa, Ruth Roche and Chris Barron. She moved to North Carolina, and her advanced training continued under celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh. Smith attended Bumble and Bumble NYC to hone her teaching and business skills. She furthered her education at Milbon for thermal reconditioning techniques, as well as Deva Curl.
