Jim Dodson Law Supports Crackdown to Reduce Drunk Driving Fatalities in Florida

Attorney Jim Dodson Joins Largo PD in National Campaign “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”

Clearwater, FL, August 30, 2013 --(PR.com)-- From now until Sept 2., police will be cracking down on impaired drivers as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative. Largo Police Department will participate in the campaign to decrease the heightened number of injuries and fatalities caused by drunk driving accidents during Labor Day weekend.

Intoxicated motorists kill a person every 51 minutes in the U.S. According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 10,000 people are killed every year by drivers who are under the influence. Over 400 of those deaths occur on Labor Day weekend, making it the second deadliest time of the year to be on the roadways.

During holiday weekends, studies show drug and alcohol-related crashes increase by 15 percent. Law enforcement officials say the rise in wrecks is not a surprise due to more people traveling and more of those drivers being on drugs or alcohol.

“We are arresting more impaired motorists every year, especially on holidays like Labor Day. Driving under the influence is a terrible idea. We will be out in full force aggressively looking for DUI drivers. If you are driving intoxicated, we will arrest you,” said Largo PD Sergeant George Edmiston.

“Drunk or impaired driving is a completely voluntary and preventable act. Not only is it a crime, but an impaired motorist unfairly puts every other motorist on the road at risk. If anyone plans to drink over the weekend or anytime, make arrangements for a designated driver. Let’s make this holiday weekend a safe and happy one for everyone,” said Clearwater Accident Attorney Jim Dodson.
