New Editor-in-Chief Appointed to "Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery"
New York, NY, September 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Thieme has appointed Dr. Bernard T. Lee as the new Editor-in-Chief of its publication "Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery" ("JRM"). Since 2007, Dr. Lee has served as the Associate Editor of "JRM". He will replace Professor Peter C. Neligan, MB, BCh, effective of July 1, 2013.
Dr. Bernard T. Lee is a board-certified general surgeon and plastic surgeon, who received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, and a MBA from University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management. He completed a residency program in general surgery at Tufts – New England Medical Center and a plastic surgery residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Currently, he is enrolled in the Clinical Effectiveness Master of Public Health program at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is also Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, serves as the Acting Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and as the Co-Director of the Peter Jay Sharp Program for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery.
Dr. Lee’s area of expertise is breast reconstruction following mastectomy and cancer. Here, he developed a new program in Boston, using a microsurgical technique for reconstruction of a breast by applying abdominal skin and fat. Unlike previous surgical options, this method bases perfusion on the perforating vessels while preserving the rectus abdominis muscle. He is active in clinical research examining outcomes in breast reconstruction and patient satisfaction. Dr. Lee is also a NIH funded researcher with a focus on near-infrared imaging technologies and microsurgical flap perfusion. In total, he has over 95 peer-reviewed publications and is Co-Editor of a three-volume textbook on reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Bernard Lee said, “ I am truly delighted by the opportunity to take up this new position. I look forward to the challenge and to build on the previous work laid down by Peter Neligan and Berish Strauch.”
“I am very pleased Bernard Lee is taking on this role. He is not a ‘newcomer’ to "JRM," as he has been associated with the journal for a number of years, acting as an adhoc reviewer and Associate Editor. I am confident that with Bernard Lee at its helm "JRM" will continue its growing success with authors and readers alike,” commented Professor Peter C. Neligan, MB, BCh, former Editor-in-Chief of "JRM."
"JRM," available in print and online, is a peer-reviewed, indexed journal publishing original research and topical reviews containing clinical information of use to the practicing microsurgeon. Now in its 29th year, the international publication is a major means of communication for the global microsurgical community. In addition, special sections discuss new technologies, innovations, materials and significant problem cases.
