Tampa, FL, September 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- As it is common throughout the United States, employers in Puerto Rico also often have a difficult time understanding the proper procedures and legalities for drug testing of employees. Many common practices arise from “that’s the way we have always done it.” This is certainly not a best employment practice for human resource professionals to follow.
National expert on workplace drug testing, Joe Reilly, will present at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Puerto Rico Chapter 40th Annual Conference to be held at El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, PR from September 18 through September 21, 2013. Reilly’s discussion on "Drug Testing: Fact or Fiction - What Is Your Liability?" will present sound best practices for employment drug testing in Puerto Rico and dispel some fiction and myths surrounding drug testing of workers employed by both regulated and non-regulated companies. There are situations where drug testing is required and with this requirement comes regulations which set forth the proper procedures for the drug testing program. Reilly will discuss the Puerto Rico statute on workplace drug testing drug - Act No. 59 of August 8, 1997. Employers that comply with the requirements of the Act, limit their liability against employee lawsuits.
Reilly stated, “I am pleased to be sponsored by USA Mobile Drug Testing of San Juan, PR to help educate HR professionals. When setting up a drug testing program it is critical that the program follow the rules that apply – both Federal and Puerto Rico law. My goal is for attendees to learn fact and fiction, and how to set up a comprehensive and successful drug free workplace program.”
