Ballet Tech Cincinnati Moves Into New World Headquarters
Cincinnati, OH, September 12, 2007 --(PR.com)-- ballet tech cincinnati held its first rehearsal in its new Kennedy Heights world headquarters facility on Saturday, September 08, 2007. With the Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy Electric Jazz and Student Orchestra, they did a run-through rehearsal of Act I of the World Premier of The Jazzy Sleeping Beauty scheduled to open the company’s Seventh Season Series at the Aronoff Center at 8PM on September 14-15, 2007 and 2PM on September 15, 2007. A fresh, brand new view into Tchaikovsky’s traditional classical Sleeping Beauty, with live accompaniment by three-time Cappie Award-winning Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy Electric Jazz and Student Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Dan Grantham, this production will entertain audience members with the traditional story, classical choreography and Tchaikovsky music, with an exciting new jazzy twist.
The new world headquarters at 6543 Montgomery Road in the Kennedy Heights neighborhood of Cincinnati is an excellent location for the new facility. “We are right in the center of the new focus on the arts as a way to spur economic and community development in the Montgomery Road Corridor. During the rehearsal, many community members stopped by, curious and anxious to learn about the company, performances, classes and new positive activity in the building, which had been vacant for 13 years. The rehearsal for The Jazzy Sleeping Beauty was the first in the new facility, which is still under renovation.
ballet tech cincinnati commissioned choreographer Waverly Lucas II, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Atlanta’s Ballethnic Dance Company, to spice up the ballet with jazzy contemporary choreography and composer Mark Lomax to re-score new jazzy arrangements of the traditional Tchaikovsky music in sections of the ballet. Traditional ballet audiences and dance neophytes alike will love the old, and thrill to the nuances of the new music and choreography of this innovative production of The Jazzy Sleeping Beauty.
Featuring a diverse cast of dancers of all ages, The Jazzy Sleeping Beauty will showcase very talented and polished young pre-professional dancers, adults and professional dancers performing various styles of dance from classical ballet to contemporary, modern and jazz. This landmark production will be the first presentation with a Black Sleeping Beauty, ballet tech cincinnati’s Epiphany Davis, and Black Princes, professional dancers from Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Ballethnic Dance Company. The original Tchaikovsky score will be augmented by percussion and stylized jazz embellishments in certain parts of the ballet to update the presentation and make the ballet more relevant to today’s changing demographic: younger, more diverse in every aspect-ethnically, racially, and geographically. “While the core of the story is universal, how it’s told is not and we felt that making the story relevant to a larger, ethnically diverse community was important.” - Nena Gilreath, Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Ballethnic Dance Company.

The mission of ballet tech cincinnati is to educate, entertain and inspire by providing diverse and innovative performances that have a phenomenal community impact. Founded in 1997, ballet tech cincinnati is a non-profit 501 (C ) (3) organization located in Kennedy Heights. ballet tech cincinnati opens its seventh Season Series of major dance programs as a resident company at the Aronoff Center and presents about a dozen community performances each year to provide Greater Cincinnati with a new venue for high quality dance performances featuring pre-professional and professional dancers and classical and contemporary repertoire, folk dances and a wide variety of artists, dance styles and music. Dance 2 Community Kids community outreach program engages sponsor companies and individuals to partner with them to introduce youth from underserved communities to dance and the Aronoff Center to expand the audience for the arts and downtown Cincinnati venues. Over 1200 children have attended ballets in this outreach. Each year, the Leaping for Literacy Project includes a spring production based on beloved children’s stories to entertain families with children of all ages. This project also includes Touring Company performances in area schools, free outreach performances in area libraries and bookstores, a poster and poetry contest, and a book giveaway to promote family literacy. Last season, they served over 12,000 audience members. They have the most diverse audience of any Cincinnati area presenter, and they are the only company that presents guest companies, an international Gala, and preprofessional dancers as part of their season series.
