About Elsa Gomez

Elsa Gomez, is the first female director of quality for a pharmaceutical company in Puerto Rico back in the 1970s, Gomez knows the importance of setting and working toward goals to achieve one's desired level of success. In supervising the internal research and manufacturing practices involved in pharmaceutical product development, she is instrumental in the work of chemists, pharmacists and the agencies that regulate it. Responsible for ensuring that documentation submitted to regulatory agencies meets requirements and quality systems are implemented, Gomez assists managers and their teams in preparing for inspections and audits. She has 40 years of experience, including positions as manager of technical projects and vice president of quality assurance for her current employer; she has successfully lead numerous projects to completion in both the clinical and corporate settings. In addition to her time with Watson Pharmaceuticals, Gomez formerly served as vice president of operations for Watson Laboratories and director of production for Searle and Company in Puerto Rico, where she was instrumental in the exchange of products with England. While her drive and expertise were certainly key in bringing her thus far in her career, she attributes her success to the support she receives from her employees. Gomez received a Master of Science in radiation chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico in 1972 and a Bachelor of Science in physical chemistry from the same institution in 1967. She is a member of the American Society for Quality and American Chemical Society, and also dedicates her time to the Humane Society of the United States and various animal shelters in Puerto Rico. She takes her responsibilities in compliance very seriously, and as as such, is an invaluable member of Watson's R&D team.
