The Board of Trustees Announce That The National Judicial College Has Selected a New President
The Honorable Chad Schmucker of Michigan has been selected to be the College's 8th President.
Reno, NV, September 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Board of Trustees of The National Judicial College (NJC) is pleased to announce that the Honorable Chad Schmucker of Michigan has been selected to be its 8th President. He will join the NJC in mid-November to begin working with staff and current President Hon. William F. Dressel to ensure a smooth transition. Judge Schmucker will officially start as the College’s president on January 1, 2014.
After 20 years as a Jackson County Circuit Court Judge, Judge Schmucker became the Michigan State Court Administrator in 2011. He graduated from the University of Michigan with an accounting degree and obtained his law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He entered into private law practice specializing in personal injury and insurance defense litigation. In 1991, he became a Circuit Court Judge in Michigan. During his 20 year tenure, he assisted in starting four problem solving courts in Jackson including felony drugs/alcohol, domestic violence, family dependency and mental health. As State Court Administrator, he oversaw management of the state’s 246 trial courts, implemented a Michigan version of trial court performance measures, and developed a plan for court governance to promote cooperation and efficiency among courts.
The NJC was founded in 1963 and is one of the nation’s leading providers of judicial education and justice improvement initiatives. It is housed in a state-of-the-art building on the historic 255-acre campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. This year, the College is celebrating 50 years of providing outstanding education to our nation’s judiciary.
