Coppinwood Golf Club Recognized for Environmental Excellence
Coppinwood Golf Club of Goodwood, Ontario has been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International.
Goodwood, Canada, September 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Coppinwood Golf Club has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. Scott Pratt, Golf Course Superintendent, led the effort to obtain sanctuary designation on the property and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Coppinwood Golf Club is the 52nd golf course in Ontario and the 1017th in the world to receive the honor.
"Coppinwood Golf Club has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property," said Joellen Lampman, Associate Director of Environmental Programs.
"To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas," explained Lampman. These categories include: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management.
“Coppinwood is a club not just dedicated to environmental quality, but also in providing the membership with the best possible golf experience,” said Pratt. “We worked with the world's leading golf course architect, Tom Fazio, to build the course with the environment in mind, building on what was already there with minimal changes to the landscape.”
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia have achieved certification in the program.
