Mission Production Resurrects Jesus on Kickstarter
Artist re-imagines the most iconic image in recorded history.
Los Angeles, CA, September 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Mission Productions artist Jay Bernard has created a modern interpretation of an image of Jesus, embracing joy.
The idea was born one Christmas morning as family and friends gathered at the home of Jay’s friend and partner, writer, Ernie Contreras. As Ernie tells it, “It had been a tough year and I knew a tougher one was ahead, but I clearly remember the Christmas tree, the smell of turkey in the oven, and the sound of kids running through the house shrieking with laughter. I smiled at my wife, she smiled at a friend and smiles spread all around the room. It was an incredible feeling.”
It was then Ernie began to notice the iconic images of Jesus around the house, images he had grown up with and held in deep reverence. They all, to a fault, invoked pain, anguish and immeasurable suffering. No way would Ernie ever question the power or importance of these images, but what hit him was, why they were the only images.
At the table Ernie posed the question, had anyone ever seen an image of Jesus smiling? The answer was a collective, no.”
Thus began Ernie’s mission to realize that image. After years of searching, he met artist-designer Jay Bernard, “One of the coolest, most creative people around.” Ernie pitched the idea to Jay who ‘got it’ immediately. Jay took the creative challenge and designed the image.
This image will make its first official unveiling through the Kickstarter campaign “Jesus Art Project”. Backers of this campaign will be rewarded with first-edition Bernard-designed T-shirts and stickers.
