Verigenics(R) Awarded a Patent for Its RFID Tracking System that Withstands Gamma Irradiation; Incorporates Gamma-Stable Tags and Labels
The Verigenics division of NewAge(R) Industries has received U.S. Patent Number 8,519,846 for its GammaTag(R) RFID technology. The GammaTag system uses durable RFID (radio frequency identification) tags, labels, and reader-writers to track and identify components requiring gamma irradiation for the purpose of sterilization. Industries that use such technology include medical device, pharmaceutical, bioprocess and others involved with critical and patient-related applications.
Southampton, PA, September 27, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Verigenics division of NewAge(R) Industries announces that its GammaTag(R) RFID (radio frequency identification) technology has been awarded a U.S. patent (number 8,519,846). The system tracks and identifies bags; liners for vessels; filters; medical devices; and pharmaceutical, chemical and biological processing devices that require gamma irradiation for sterilization purposes.
“This patent complements our existing portfolio and further enhances our position in the marketplace as the leader in process equipment tracking,” said Jeffrey D. Johnson, Verigenics’ director and the system’s co-inventor. “Our software solutions and durable RFID tagging options offer effective asset tracking from cradle to grave, regardless of sterilization method.”
The GammaTag system was designed to provide reliable electronic data storage and identification information for single use medical devices and instruments, bioprocessing components, pharmaceutical sampling bags and other items. Gamma-stable tags and labels – those that are unaffected by gamma and other types of ionizing radiation – attach directly to components. The system increases patient safety, improves inventory visibility, and protects against counterfeiting.
GammaTag was the first read-write radio frequency identification tag to handle gamma irradiation with no loss of data, as earlier generations of tags and labels were damaged by the sterilization process. The tags work with RFID reader-writers to electronically track and identify tagged components.
Other patented RFID systems from Verigenics include the P•E•T Process Equipment Tracking(R) and Hose Track(R) Identification & Lifecycle Analysis Systems.
