Flexure Engineering Invites Scientific Community to 3rd International Workshop on LunarCubes
Flexure Engineering is inviting space scientists, engineers and researchers from around the world to present at and attend the 3rd International Workshop on LunarCubes (LCW 3) scheduled to be held November 13-15, 2013 in Palo Alto, California.
Seattle, WA, October 01, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Russell Cox, Director of Research at Flexure Engineering, announced today that, “We’re pioneering a series of three workshops to further the state of lunar and space exploration and we’re excited to host the leading minds in space science and engineering at the 3rd International Workshop on LunarCubes (www.lunarcubes.com.).”
The Lunar Workshops are a series of interactive and educational events for space scientists, engineers, researchers, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and investors. They are designed to foster collaborative work to solve the challenges of building hardware, software, businesses and collaborative communities involved in going back to the Moon and beyond. The Lunar Workshops include events on subjects as diverse as Scientific Opportunities in CisLunar Space (SOCS), Lunar Superconductor Applications (LSA) and LunarCubes (LCW).
November’s upcoming workshop on LunarCubes is focused on extending the highly successful CubeSat model into the space beyond Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This region is referred to as CisLunar Space and is considered by many planetary scientists to be the gateway to the rest of the solar system. LunarCubes can be designed and built faster and at lower cost than traditional Lunar exploration platforms. Cox elaborated on the role of the workshop in speeding space exploration. “The workshops are designed for scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs who want to get started now and fly as soon as possible. These workshops are about raising capital, building teams, creating technologies and making discoveries now, not ten years from now.”
The event is scheduled for November 13-15 and is hosted at the Sheridan Hotel in Palo Alto, California. The organizers are currently soliciting abstracts for presentation and poster display, and are expecting a surge in attendance over prior workshops. Cox discussed the decision to dedicate a stand-alone workshop to the LunarCube concept. “We founded the LunarCube workshops to promote the collaboration necessary to advance the standards for low cost and fast deployment payloads for future Lunar missions. This is the cutting edge for new technologies and methodologies that’s going to explode Lunar and planetary exploration in our time.”
Cox is passionate about the possibilities in space exploration now. “Space is inspirational again,” he said. “We want to share this with everyone we meet – scientists, engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, space industry veterans, grown-ups, even students – to engage them in the story of a lifetime and invite them to come with us to be a part of history in the making.”
