The Jerry and Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center Celebrates Child Health Day
JDT Medical Rehab commemorates Child Health Day with tips for a healthy lifestyle.
Queens, NY, October 03, 2013 --(PR.com)-- JDT Medical Rehab Center is proud to spread awareness about Child Health Day this October 7, 2013. On this day, Gold Crest hopes to share the spirit of community in fighting autism, childhood obesity, and infant fatalities, while supporting healthy eating habits, personal hygiene and mental growth and development.
Proclaimed a day of National Observance by President Calvin Coolidge in 1928, it was observed on May 1st until 1960, when it was moved to the first Monday of October. Organizations interested in child wellness are invited to join together on Child Health Day to help increase awareness of child health issues.
Healthcare organizations across the nation commemorate the day through various activities and events. The Health Resources and Services Administration provides educational resources for parents and schools about issues affecting their children, such as child obesity prevention and healthy choices. Today, about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese, according to the Center for Disease Control. That is nearly triple the rate recorded in 1963, a major risk factor for serious health consequences later in life.
“Our nation’s children are our future. Should we not encourage them to live as long and healthy a life as possible? They’re our future leaders, teachers, doctors, nurses and we must watch over them. We must make lasting impressions on our children, whether it’s tips on healthy eating or the importance of proper exercise. It’s our responsibility to ensure our children grow up healthy and informed,” said Toni Loyas, Chief Operations Officer at JDT Resort Medical Rehab Center.
JDT Resort Medical Rehab Center serves residents seven days a week with in-patient/out-patient rehab for guests recovering from injury, surgery or illness, with staff on call for all needs, 24 hours a day.
