She graduated from Graduate Medical School National Autonomous University in 1968, received her Residency in Internal Medicine in 1972 from Tufts University, graduated from Northwestern University for Graduate Medical Oncology in 1976, and received her Doctorate in Medical Science from National Autonomous University in 2000. She is a doctor at Hospital General de Mexico with over 35 years experience in Oncology. She received numerous awards, including an Honors Award for Best Student from the National Autonomous University in 1968, the MarÃa Lavalle Urbina, Women of the Year Award in 2003, Excellence in Medicine at ABC Medical Center in 2003, the "Raquel Gerson Garden," Tacubaya Pediatric Hospital in 2006, and the Dr. J. Manuel Velasco Arce Medal from the Mexican Association of Breast Diseases in 2008. Dr. Gerson has over 20 international publications, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, The Breast Journal, Reviews on Recent Clinical Trials, Permanyer Publications, Cancer Journal, Annals of Oncology, and over 90 national publications, including Anales Médicos, Revista Médica del Hospital General, Revista Médica Instituto Nacional de CancerologÃa, CirugÃa y Cirujanos, Gaceta Mexicana de OncologÃa, and Revista Mexicana de MastologÃa. She was the Co-editor of two books and author of more than 30 chapters. Dr. Gerson is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the Mexican Academy of Surgery, the Mexican Society of Oncology, the Latin American and Caribbean Society of Oncology, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American College of Physicians, the Interamerican Society for Chemotherapy, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society of Medical Oncology, the Senologic International Society, Presidential Who's Who, the Weizmann Institute of Science, International Women's Forum, and The New York Chemotherapy Foundation.
