Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard Receives Carraway Award of Merit
Preservation N.C. Awards Campbell Law School’s Dean for Commitment of Historic Preservation
Raleigh, NC, October 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard was presented with the Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit from Preservation North Carolina during the organization’s annual conference on Oct. 4 in Edenton, N.C. Leonard received the honor in acknowledgement of his tireless work spearheading the reservation of the historic Century Station Federal Building on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.
The Carraway Award is annually presented to people and organizations demonstrating genuine commitment through extraordinary leadership, research, philanthropy, promotion and/or personal participation in historic preservation.
The Federal Building serves as the home to the downtown Raleigh post office and the federal bankruptcy court, where Leonard previously presided as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Originally completed in 1878, Leonard led a dramatic multi-year reconstruction and renovation of the original courtrooms and meeting rooms from 2005-09. In researching the building’s original design, Leonard and his staff uncovered nearly 80 boxes of construction documents at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., which they used to assist in reclaiming the original design of the facility during reconstruction.
