Marlborough Among Top 5 Best Places for Job Seekers in Massachusetts

Marlborough ranks 5th based on income, affordability, population growth, and unemployment rate.

Marlborough, MA, October 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Consumer advocacy website NerdWallet has ranked Marlborough as the 5th best place for job seekers in Massachusetts.

Last week, the San Francisco, California based company published the results of its study, identifying the top ten locations for job seekers in Massachusetts. NerdWallet analyzed 76 of the state’s largest cities, using four criteria: median household income, monthly homeowner costs, population growth, and unemployment rates.

Marlborough’s growing tech hub status, low unemployment rate of 5.7 percent, median household income of $72,853, and presence of major employers, like Raytheon, Agilent Technologies, and Dow Electronic Materials, earned it 5th place overall.

“Marlborough continues to grow into a top destination for biotechnology companies,” said NerdWallet analyst Annie Wang, who released the study results. “The city’s Platinum rating as a BioReady Community is a recognition that helps Marlborough attract even more biotech businesses.”

In the past year alone, Marlborough has managed to secure some significant additions to its fast-growing life sciences cluster. In November 2012, medical devices giant, Boston Scientific, announced its plans to move the company’s headquarters and its 800 employees to Marlborough in early 2014. Medical testing services leader, Quest Diagnostics, has also committed to opening a new laboratory complex and bringing 1,200 new jobs to the city in 2014. Most recently, just last week, Boston Biomedical Associates announced it too plans on relocating its headquarters and 52 employees to Marlborough in early 2014. And maker of exoskeleton devices, Argo Medical Technologies Ltd., already moved its headquarters to Marlborough at the end of last year, bringing with it dozens of new job openings.

“We are very pleased to see that Marlborough is continuing to gain national recognition as a state leader in job creation and economic growth,” said MEDC Executive Director, Tim Cummings. “This newest report by NerdWallet solidifies the fact that our city is a great place for people to live, work and play and businesses to thrive, grow, and innovate.”
