Location: Norwich, CT and the world!
Thrill The World (TTW) is an annual event that brings friends, families, and other local residents together with thousands of other people around the globe to break the World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Zombie Dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller!" TTW is more than just dancing to a 6-minute song; the broader goal is unity among all the people of the world, humanitarianism, and environmental stewardship.
The Thrill The World event is set for Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 12 pm EDT – 6 pm EDT and will be at the Donald Oat Theatre, which is located at 62 Broadway in Norwich, CT. From 12 - 2 there will be a “last chance crash course” to learn the Thriller dance in two hours. From 2:30 - 3:30, there will be a review for zombies who have taken classes with Artreach or studied with the videos. Between 3:30 and 4:30, we’ll “get our zombie on,” and Thrill Time is at 5 pm.
Artreach is joining around the world with nearly 130 events in 16 different countries and counting. Artreach Executive Director Rebecca Atkins describes this event as, "a fantastic way for the Southeastern CT community to come together to have fun and to support a great cause. This is a stigma-busting event, as well - we are all in the same boat, people who have mental illnesses and just community folks who want to learn Thriller, dancing together and having fun. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to learn firsthand how the creative process is healing, particularly when a community works together on a common goal.”
Artreach, Inc. provides artistic opportunities in theater, music, and writing for adults who have psychiatric disorders. The Second Step Players, Artreach’s stigma-busting theater troupe, writes and performs conscious comedy and music to create social change by increasing understanding about people who have mental health issues. Check out Artreach’s website at www.artreachheals.org; facebook.com/artreachheals, facebook.com/secondstepplayers and twitter.com/artreachheals.
