Former Minnesota Tax Court Judge Sheryl A. Ramstad Joins Krieg DeVault's Minneapolis Office

Minneapolis, MN, October 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The law firm of Krieg DeVault LLP is pleased to announce that Sheryl A. Ramstad recently joined the firm’s Twin Cities Office which is located in the RBC Plaza in downtown Minneapolis. Ms. Ramstad is a member of the firm’s Governmental Affairs, Business and Health Care Practice Groups and she will focus her efforts on client and business development opportunities throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and other surrounding markets.

Prior to joining Krieg DeVault, Ms. Ramstad served as a judge with the Minnesota Tax Court for 11 years. From 1996-2001, she served a four-year term as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Corrections and was in the Cabinet of former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura. She also spent 14 years as a partner with the former Minnesota law firm, Rider Bennett, and prior to that was an Assistant United States Attorney. In addition to having served as President of Minnesota Women Lawyers, the Hennepin County Bar Association, and the Minnesota State Bar Association, Ms. Ramstad is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She is a past recipient of the American College of Trial Lawyers Civil Justice Award and is a Fellow in the International Society of Barristers.

Ms. Ramstad has devoted years of service and leadership to a wide range of civic and nonprofit organizations, serving as Chairman of the YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis, Chair of the University of Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors, and Chair of the University of Minnesota Women’s Athletic Advisory Committee. At the appointment of the U.S. Attorney General, Ms. Ramstad served on the National Advisory Board for the National Institute of Corrections, and the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services appointed her to serve on the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Advisory Board. Additionally, Ms. Ramstad served on the boards of directors for the Union Gospel Mission of the Twin Cities, ClearWay Minnesota, the Center for the Victims of Torture, the Minneapolis Children’s Medical Center, and Search Institute.

Ms. Ramstad is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where she was selected one of the Distinguished Alumni of the College of Liberal Arts. She graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law (with honors) and was a member of the Order of the Coif, as well as an Editor of the Law Review. In December, Ms. Ramstad will graduate from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing where she is currently completing her Masters of Nursing degree and was recently invited to join the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society.
