GCFLearnFree.org Launches Highly Anticipated Free Typing Tutorial
Based on learner need, GCFLearnFree.org now offers a touch typing tutorial.
Raleigh, NC, November 01, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Today, after six months of development, GCFLearnFree.org launched a free touch-typing tutorial. Based on the number of requests from users, this interactive is poised to be one of the most popular tutorials offered by the free education website.
There is a lack of free, quality typing tutorials elsewhere online. To answer this need, GCFLearnFree.org created its most robust interactive to date with a focus on repetition and practice. The tutorial stresses to the user that the only way to learn is through repetition and over 400 sentences and almost 500 different words are included in the practice tool. Audio, images, animations, and text are all used throughout the tutorial to provide users with different learning modalities.
Recognizing that the process of learning to type can be discouraging, GCFLearnFree.org explored a coaching model that includes supportive feedback. This feature, termed microcoaching, is adjustable, allowing the user to control the amount of encouragement he or she receives. The tutorial takes the stance that typing isn’t easy and certainly isn’t learned quickly; the microcoaching feature provides users with the motivation to continue trying.
The keyboarding tutorial is GCFLearnFree.org’s first learning application to employ HTML5. Using HTML5 will allow the typing interactive to be accessible in all major browsers and on all devices.

“If you use a keyboard every day, you might not remember how tough learning to type can be. We’re really excited about how we have addressed learning a difficult skill through the microcoaching feature. I also think the design of the tutorial stands out; with a minimal, quirky feel, the design expression is all ours," states Matt Robinson, Coordinator of Distance Learning, GCFLearnFree.org.
