The Chef's Academy and Firewürst Restaurant Partner to Challenge Students' Culinary Creativity
The Chef’s Academy Students Compete to Have Gourmet Bratwurst Recipe Included on Local Restaurant’s Menu.
Raleigh, NC, November 03, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Chef’s Academy, the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 110-year-old, private sector college serving more than 4,000 students worldwide, has announced that its students will compete for a chance to have a dish featured on the menu of Firewürst, a locally-sourced flame-grilled sausage and hot dog restaurant with locations in Cary and Brier Creek. The live-action competition will take place Friday, Nov. 8 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at The Chef's Academy Morrisville campus located at 2001 Carrington Mill Blvd.
To enter the competition, students must submit a recipe for a gourmet hot dog and sausage that represents the fresh ingredients and style of the Firewürst menu. Prior to submission, students will have the opportunity to visit Firewürst to better understand the kitchen, ingredients and current dishes offered in order to create recipes that best suit the menu. Students will also have the chance to inspect Firewürst’s kitchen design and see the ingredients they use to assist in recipe planning for the preliminary and final rounds. These preparatory steps are included in the competition in order to provide aspiring culinary professionals with hands-on kitchen experience necessary for real-world success.
Recipes will be evaluated by a panel of judges and teams of finalists will be selected to create their dishes in the live-action portion of the competition. Judges Chas Morgenstern of Firewürst, Chef Ryan Payne of The Weathervane at Southern Season and Kathy Hanrahan of WRAL Out & About will then sample each of the dishes and name the winning team who will have their recipe featured on Firewürst’s menu, in addition to several other prizes including professional chef’s knives and branded chef jackets.
Quotes:
“Competitions that allow our students to gain real world experience are exceedingly valuable to their development and culinary education,” said Chef Jeffrey Bane, North Carolina campus president and national dean at The Chef’s Academy. “I am confident that this competition will produce some fresh new ideas for Firewürst and give our students the chance to collaborate and think creatively.”
“We are very excited to work with such and energetic group,” said Bill Morgenstern, CEO, Firewürst. “The Chef’s Academy students have some great ideas and we are anxious to centerpiece some of the recipes from the competition on our menus.”
