West Palm Store Offers Interactive Artisan Experiences
Shoppe 561 debuts soap-making class and others this week.
West Palm Beach, FL, November 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Shoppe 561 offering a fresh approach to retail by featuring handcrafted items made exclusively by Florida artists, has announced it will begin offering classes taught by local artisans beginning this weekend in its West Palm Beach store. Classes range from home décor workshops, to kids crafts, to artist portfolio classes and more. A full schedule can be found at shoppe561.com/classes. The store is located at 319 Belvedere Road, on the corner of S. Dixie Highway and Belvedere in the former Great Balls of Yarn space.
Examples of upcoming classes include:
Saturday, November 9, (1pm, 2pm and 3pm): Soap-Making 101. Washburne Soap founder Scott Spell will teach the class. Cold process soap making can be traced to ancient times, and is still in use today. Learn this ancient method and create your very own soap. The class is for ages 15 and up; safety goggles provided. Participants determine the color, scent and additive, clays and exfoliants for a 3-4 personalized soaps. $25 per student.
Monday, November 11, 10 - 1130 am: Needle Felting 101: Looking for something to do on a school holiday? Local artisan and mom Kristin Maikkula will show students how to sculpt and felt using raw wool roving and specially designed needles to make a headband, bracelet or bookmark. Ages 7-12, $20 per student.
Saturdays, November 16 - December 21, from 10 - 11:30 am: Perfecting Your Art Portfolio. This six-week session, taught by art teacher Gwenn Seuling, is designed to create artworks that will help get students into the art school they want to attend. The series is $285 per person and is available for students aged 13 and older.
Thursday, November 21, from 10am - 12 pm; and Saturday, November 23rd from 2pm - 4pm: Felt Flower Wreaths. Local artisan Tracey Lamport will show attendees how to make a beautiful wreath, using felt flowers, a current hot trend in home décor. Classes are $45 per person and all supplies are included.
