U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Awards SciMetrika $1.5 Million to Help Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect
Population Health Consulting Firm Selected to Provide Training, Technical Assistance and Evaluation Support to Essentials for Childhood Project
Durham, NC, November 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- SciMetrika, LLC, a population health consulting firm, has announced that the company has been awarded a five-year, $1.5 million contract by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent child maltreatment (CM) and assure that children reach their full potential. SciMetrika and its partner, ESI, will provide training, technical assistance and evaluation support to state public health department in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Washington to implement Essentials for Childhood.
Essentials for Childhood is a program that utilizes steps based on the best evidence available and is designed to create the safe, stable, and nurturing relationships necessary for the prevention of child maltreatment. Child maltreatment is an under-reported issue that is experienced by roughly 1 in 7 U.S. children, affecting their physical health, broader health outcomes, mental health, social development, and risk-taking behavior into adolescence and adulthood. The implementation of these state-based programs focuses the first-of-its-kind attention on this important issue and will produce important feedback for future program implementation.
Under terms of the contract, a team of multidisciplinary public health professionals from SciMetrika and ESI will conduct a knowledge and skills assessment of state public health representatives to provide the appropriate training and technical support. They also will create and implement an evaluation plan to measure the progress of these five states toward their goals of implementing the Essentials for Childhood steps, as well as to gain a better understanding of the impact of the Essentials for Childhood program. Work on this project began Sept. 27 and will continue over the next five years.
