GreaterGood Tops $30 Million in Lifetime Giving

Since 1999, the GreaterGood family of cause related websites have given more than $30 million to nearly 2,000 charities, nonprofits, and schools worldwide.

Seattle, WA, November 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- GreaterGood.org executive director Elizabeth Baker announced today that GreaterGood’s lifetime giving topped $30 million in October 2013.

“I'm thrilled to see GreaterGood hit the $30 million dollar mark in donations,” said Baker. “Our funding has enabled many important non-profit partners to fund projects around the world to help people, pets and the planet. We will continue to strive to make a real difference in those areas and look forward to our goal of the next $30 million.”

Since 1999, the GreaterGood family of cause related websites have combined clicking, shopping, and giving to support eight major cause areas: hunger and poverty relief, breast cancer research and programs helping women receive free mammograms, animal rescue, aid for families coping with autism, help for homeless veterans, children’s health programs including combating juvenile diabetes, literacy, and rainforest preservation.

This network of charitable websites began with the Internet’s first “Click To Give” website in 1999: The Hunger Site (www.thehungersite.com). In 2000, longtime business partners Tim Kunin and Greg Hesterberg bought the company and expanded it to the current network of more than a dozen cause-related websites.

Today, the company’s distribution center in Allendale, MI, ships thousands of packages daily to customers around the world who want to give back when they shop. More than 7,000 items are available through GreaterGood’s online stores. The company’s Global Girlfriend line of fair trade clothing also is carried by retailers throughout the United States.

Kunin travels throughout the world to visit GreaterGood’s charity partners and fair trade suppliers. Currently, the company works with fair trade suppliers and artisans in more than seventy countries. “The impact that buying products from artisans, especially women artisans, in rural areas is empowering as well as enriching,” he said, pointing out that the artisans invariably reinvest these earnings in their community in various ways including better education for their children.

“I have always focused on providing customers good service and good products, and making the most difference with the money we raise, rather than focusing on benchmarks,” added Kunin. “I was very proud when we reached the $10 million dollar level, and am equally proud that our customers and staff have made it possible to have given $30 million dollars in cash to charity partners, but believe we can do even more.”
