Gold Crest Care Center Celebrates as Thanksgiving and Hanukkah Share the Stage in 2013

Bronx-Based Nursing Home Gold Crest Care Center Will Celebrate Thanksgiving and Hanukkah with Festive Programs to Bring Families Together.

Bronx, NY, November 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- This season hosts a number of holidays, with families coming together for food, family and the opportunity to build memories. This year is special, as two of these holidays fall on the same date. This makes it a once in a lifetime holiday experience that will be remembered for years to come.

November 28th, 2013 is the start of the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah and the day of Thanksgiving. Hanukkah, the Jewish celebration of the Festival of Lights, lasts for eight days and celebrates the successful rebellion of the Maccabees against Antiochus IV Epiphanes, after which the candles of the temple burned for eight days on a one day supply. Like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah has its own cultural and traditional foods such as latkes and jelly doughnuts.

Thanksgiving is enjoyed traditionally in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. The day was declared a national holiday by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. With it's own culture of food and togetherness, families and communities have come together for this honored tradition since the pilgrims sat with the Native Americans hundreds of years ago. Sweet potato casserole, turkey and pumpkin pie are all traditional Thanksgiving dishes.

“We are very excited about the upcoming joint celebration of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. This hasn’t happened in 125 years and we hope that families and friends of our residents come visit at Gold Crest and enjoy the festivities together. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend time with our residents who are very much looking forward to the events and programs we have planned for them,” said Mark Salomon, Administrator at Gold Crest Care Center.

To acknowledge the historic event, Gold Crest Care Center is celebrating with themed activities throughout the day. Traditional games will be played along with telling of traditional stories, followed by a meal consisting of innovative combinations of signature dishes from both holidays. Family, friends and loved ones are encouraged to join the celebration and enhance the spirit of community.
