Bayer MaterialScience’s Participation in EEB Hub Underscores Company’s Long-Standing Commitment to Sustainable Construction
Philadelphia, PA, November 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Bayer MaterialScience LLC is a key supplier to the building and construction industry, offering a broad portfolio of sustainable, high-performance materials and technologies. Through its participation in the Energy Efficient Buildings (EEB) Hub, Bayer continues its commitment to help address the need for sustainable building solutions.
Established by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2011, the EEB Hub is a consortium led by the Pennsylvania State University and includes academic institutions, DOE laboratories, global industry partners, and multiple regional economic development agencies. The EEB Hub’s mission is to transform the energy efficiency market for existing small- and medium-sized commercial buildings. The organization aims to do this by developing new approaches, promoting market-proven solutions, and engaging the stakeholder community to drive down energy use in the United States.
“The EEB is driving transformation by identifying integrated solutions that create pathways to achieving 50 percent gains in efficiency, with a focus on small- and medium-sized commercial buildings,” said Kat Hinkel, Marketing & Communications, EEB Hub. “Since our inception, Bayer MaterialScience has been a valuable contributor toward our goals.”
EEB Hub performer organizations designate employees to work on research tasks, or focus areas, based on each company’s areas of expertise. Bayer is currently contributing to the Hub’s Building Energy Systems task and Integrated Roofing and Envelope subtasks. Bayer’s objectives in promoting more energy- efficient commercial buildings are closely aligned with those of the EEB Hub, making the company a logical participant, according to Walt Clevenstine, manager, Strategic Initiatives, Bayer MaterialScience LLC.
“Bayer understands the complexities of the building and construction industry’s value chain. We, too, have been focused on solving some of the barriers of change, most notably through our EcoCommercial Building Network, which we established several years ago,” said Clevenstine. “We are pleased to contribute to the EEB Hub’s energy efficiency efforts, which we believe can help transform the industry and translate into both economic and environmental benefits.”
Greenbuild visitors could visit The EEB Hub’s booth (#2312) and Energy Lounge, located near the registration area at Greenbuild. Presentations took place in the lounge throughout the conference. From 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, representatives from Bayer and other performer organizations presented “Integrated roofing retrofit process and materials.”
“The Hub is looking at energy efficiency from both technology and behavior angles,” explained Hinkel. “We’re bringing it all together in the lounge.”
