RuckSackNY's New Public Service Announcement Warns of Texting Dangers
Manhattan based RuckSackNY, a nimble, full-service boutique agency, has just completed a Public Service Announcement in response to the growing number of "distracted driving" car accidents.
New York, NY, November 27, 2013 --(PR.com)-- RuckSackNY has created a thirty-second spot to educate the audience about the dangers related to texting while driving or walking, entitled: “Why did the turkey cross the road?”
According to the US Government, 3,328 people were killed in distraction-affected crashes during 2012. Following several near misses, due to texting drivers, Fred and Natasha Ruckel, co-owners at RuckSackNY, decided to make a Public Service Announcement video to help raise awareness about this issue.
“It scares me to be on the road at times,” noted Fred Ruckel, “It just takes a moment for a car to swerve into you.” Natasha, Fred’s wife and business partner finds the situation all too stressful, “I often tell Fred that there’s nothing he can do about it.”
According to the American Automobile Association, 43.4 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The statistic inspired the Ruckels to create a seasonal ‘texting and driving’ message.
“We had to move quickly to get the whole video completed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday travels. We only started brainstorming concepts on the morning of Tuesday November 19th. It was a huge a challenge,” noted Fred. “We created the all of the animations, original music score and sound effects in just four days.”
The PSA video opens with an animated ‘texting turkey’ waddling down main-street. The goofy character-animated turkey, appeals to a wide audience, young and old alike. It doesn’t end well for the turkey. He collides with a car driven by a texting driver. The hit-and-run driver speeds off into the distance. At the end of the sequence, the dying turkey, drops his cell phone. His last texts read: “texting kills” and “it can wait.”
Natasha Ruckel concludes: “After all of our hard work on this project, we hope that this video message will have a positive influence this Thanksgiving.”
